Proximity Sensors Coimbatore

An electronic device that detects the presence of the object within the predetermined distance is known as a proximity sensor. Proximity sensors have been used in many areas like industrial, domestic and consumer goods. They are used in automobiles, doors of office/homes, mobile phones, electronic devices and in various industrial applications. They are designed in such a way that when an object passes near by it, it produces an electromagnetic signal. The strength of the electromagnetic signal is used to measure the distance of object from the sensor. Proximity sensors are now a days used in most of the smart phones. When you are talking over phone, the mobile goes to power saving mode by switching of backlight. When you take your mobile away from your ear the backlight comes up. This is achieved using the proximity senor. This example explains the basic use of a proximity sensor.

Types of Proximity Sensors

Basically there are two important types of proximity sensors. They are inductive proximity sensor and the capacitive proximity sensor. Well, there is a main difference between these two types. Inductive type can detect only metal objects. It can’t be used in sensing the objects like plastic, clothes, leather, wood etc. In many requirements we will have to detect the non metallic objects as well. In such cases capacitive type proximity sensors are used. The sensing range of these instruments varies from applications to applications. The devices which need to sense large distance objects need to be very robust and efficient.

An illustration of the application

Using the proximity sensors in many processes can save lots of manual effort in industries. For illustration let us consider a conveyor belt. A conveyor belts in industries are used to transfer the goods from one place to another. The belt is operated only when there are some goods to transfer. Rest of the time it will be idle. When there is need to transfer, an operator has to switch it on and switch it off when the process is done. Now you can understand that the whole process needs a human presence to operate the conveyor belt. Making use of proximity sensors we can avoid the human presence. All we need to do is install a proximity sensor at one end of conveyor belt where the goods are put. The sensor can detect the presence of materials and trigger the motor of the conveyor system. The motor will be switched off in the next cycle when there is no presence of goods.

Proximity Sensor Manufacturers in Coimbatore

As you are aware the city Coimbatore is an important hub for small and medium scale industries. There are many industries of textiles, chemicals, steel, plastics, spare parts, automobile components, machines etc. The Coimbatore also houses many electronic instrument manufacturing units like proximity sensors, thermocouples, temperature controllers etc. SRI Electronics is one such firm located in Coimbatore who is the prominent proximity sensor manufacturers. Having state of the arts infrastructure and facilities, their electronic instruments are well appreciated among many buyers.

Among the best companies, SRI Electronics is the prominent proximity sensor manufacturers in Coimbatore. So always you can contact this company for any such products. They supply to any parts of India and their products are economically priced.

Sensors and its types

Broadly a sensor can be defined as an electronic device which reads the physical property of one form and converts into another form. Basically a senor reads on format of signals and converts into another format. Best and simple example of sensor can be illustrated in thermometer. A thermometer reads the temperature of the body and converts into the raise of mercury in calibrated capillary tube, using which temperature can be measured easily.

Sensors can be of many types like proximity sensors, temperature sensors (RTD sensor), pressure sensors, chemical sensors, optical sensors, image sensors, bio sensor etc. Depending on the applications, sensors are classified like above.

Proximity Sensors

A proximity sensor is an electronic instrument used to detect the nearby objects and its distance from the certain point. They will be able to measure the exact distance from the point. To better understand this let us take an example of automatic opening and closing of door in an office, without manual intervention. The door will be in closed position always. When the person comes close to the door, the proximity sensors installed on the door senses the object and passes electromagnetic signal to the door controller, which in turn opens the door. When the person enters inside, the door will close.

Proximity sensors can be of two major types, one is inductive proximity sensors and the other one is capacitive proximity sensors.  Capacitive proximity sensors works on the principle of capacitor. These sensors contain the capacitor plate. The capacitance of this capacitor will vary as the object moves near the sensor, which in turn used to measure the distance of the object. Capacitive sensors can detect both metallic and non-metallic objects. The working principle of Inductive proximity sensors is completely different. These sensors have a magnetic coil which generates magnetic field upon passing electric current. Whenever a metallic object comes near the inductive sensor, the magnetic field changes and this will be recorded by the detector. Inductive sensors can be used only to detect metallic objects.

RTD Sensors

RTD senor also called as temperature sensors are used to measure the temperature. RTD sensors contains a resistor, the resistance of which changes with temperature. The change in resistance is correlated to the temperature reading. RTD sensors are used to measure the temperature of the element, temperature of fluid, heat generated in a system, liquid measurement, air and gas stream measurement etc.

Optical Sensors (Photo Electric Sensors)

Optical sensors are used to detect the presence of light. The light is converted into electro electronic signals by these sensors.  The strength of electronic signals is in turn used to measure the presence of light.  It works similar to photo resistor. They can be used in applications like automatic switching on/off of lights based on the darkness of the room.

SRI Electronics is the most well known electronic instruments manufacturers and suppliers. Their products include inductive type proximity sensor, temperature controllers, optical sensors, thermocouples etc. They are also well reckoned RTD sensor manufacturers of all types and specifications.

Proximity Inductive Sensors

A proximity sensor is an electromagnetic device to detect the presence of nearby objects without making any physical contact with the object. Proximity sensors detect without direct contact approaching objects. Depending on the material of the object different sensor technologies are recommended. Proximity sensors emits electromagnetic beam and if any objects are present nearby, the signals will be returned back. Based on this the presence of the object is known and its distance from the sensor is calculated.

There are different types sensors based on their application and method of function. Inductive type proximity sensors are on such type of sensors which are used to detect the metal objects without establishing any physical contact with them. Capacitive sensors are used to detect all kinds of materials. RTD sensors are used to measure the temperature by correlating the resistance of the RTD element with temperature. It is also called a temperature sensor which measures the temperature using the principle that the resistance of a metal object changes with temperature. Optical sensors, also known as photo-electric sensors detects the lights, changes in light frequency, deviation in the direction of lights etc.
