An
electronic device that detects the presence of the object within the
predetermined distance is known as a proximity sensor. Proximity sensors have
been used in many areas like industrial, domestic and consumer goods. They are
used in automobiles, doors of office/homes, mobile phones, electronic devices
and in various industrial applications. They are designed in such a way that
when an object passes near by it, it produces an electromagnetic signal. The
strength of the electromagnetic signal is used to measure the distance of
object from the sensor. Proximity sensors are now a days used in most of the
smart phones. When you are talking over phone, the mobile goes to power saving
mode by switching of backlight. When you take your mobile away from your ear
the backlight comes up. This is achieved using the proximity senor. This example
explains the basic use of a proximity sensor.
Types of Proximity Sensors
Basically
there are two important types of proximity sensors. They are inductive
proximity sensor and the capacitive proximity sensor. Well, there is a main
difference between these two types. Inductive type can detect only metal
objects. It can’t be used in sensing the objects like plastic, clothes,
leather, wood etc. In many requirements we will have to detect the non metallic
objects as well. In such cases capacitive type proximity sensors are used. The
sensing range of these instruments varies from applications to applications.
The devices which need to sense large distance objects need to be very robust
and efficient.
An illustration of the application
Using
the proximity sensors in many processes can save lots of manual effort in
industries. For illustration let us consider a conveyor belt. A conveyor belts
in industries are used to transfer the goods from one place to another. The
belt is operated only when there are some goods to transfer. Rest of the time
it will be idle. When there is need to transfer, an operator has to switch it
on and switch it off when the process is done. Now you can understand that the
whole process needs a human presence to operate the conveyor belt. Making use
of proximity sensors we can avoid the human presence. All we need to do is
install a proximity sensor at one end of conveyor belt where the goods are put.
The sensor can detect the presence of materials and trigger the motor of the
conveyor system. The motor will be switched off in the next cycle when there is
no presence of goods.
Proximity Sensor Manufacturers in
Coimbatore
As
you are aware the city Coimbatore is an important hub for small and medium
scale industries. There are many industries of textiles, chemicals, steel,
plastics, spare parts, automobile components, machines etc. The Coimbatore also
houses many electronic instrument manufacturing units like proximity sensors,
thermocouples, temperature controllers etc. SRI Electronics is one such firm
located in Coimbatore who is the prominent proximity sensor manufacturers.
Having state of the arts infrastructure and facilities, their electronic
instruments are well appreciated among many buyers.
